TALLAHASSEE, FL — State Representative RaShon Young is proud to share an update on his work during the 2025–2026 Florida Legislative Session. From filing landmark voting rights legislation to standing up against dangerous gun bills, Rep. Young has hit the ground running for the families of House District 40.
Legislation Filed
HB 1419 — Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Florida Voting Rights Act: Rep. Young filed this sweeping voting rights bill alongside Sen. LaVon Bracy Davis to expand ballot access for all Floridians. The bill would create automatic and same-day voter registration, restore permanent vote-by-mail options, and add preclearance protections against discriminatory voting changes.
HB 0715 — School and Child Care Facility Emergency: This bill strengthens emergency preparedness requirements for Florida's schools and child care facilities, keeping children safer in crisis situations.
Standing Up on the Floor
Rep. Young spoke out against HB 133, a bill that would have lowered the legal age to purchase rifles. He cited scientific research on brain development, making clear that 21 remains the appropriate threshold — and that public safety must come before politics.
"The science is clear," Rep. Young said on the House floor. "We should not be making it easier for younger people to access high-powered firearms. I will always stand on the side of our children's safety."
Committee Work
Rep. Young serves on five Florida House committees this session, giving him a direct role in shaping policy on healthcare, higher education, government operations, technology, and statewide affairs:
State Affairs Committee
Government Operations Subcommittee
Information Technology Budget & Policy Subcommittee
Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee
Higher Education Budget Subcommittee
