Meet RaShon
On September 2, 2025, the people of District 40 made their voice heard. RaShon Young won his special election with 75 percent of the vote — becoming one of the youngest African American legislators ever elected in Florida's history and the first Democratic Generation Z member of the Florida House of Representatives. The district didn't just send someone to Tallahassee. They sent one of their own.
In the Florida House, Representative Young has wasted no time getting to work. Serving on the State Affairs Committee, the Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee, the Higher Education Budget Subcommittee, the Government Operations Subcommittee, and the Information Technology Budget & Policy Subcommittee, he is showing up for District 40 in the halls of power.
RaShon Young's story is one woven into the very fabric of House District 40 — and now, he carries that story into the Florida House of Representatives.
A proud graduate of Bethune-Cookman University, RaShon came into his own on the historic grounds of one of Florida's most beloved institutions. It was there he honed his voice — not just as a student leader, but as someone committed to standing in the gap for others, understanding early that leadership is about service, not self.
After Bethune-Cookman, RaShon did more than build a career, he built a mission. Working across higher education and beyond, RaShon didn't settle for proximity to success. He chose to invest his talents back into the community that raised him, starting several businesses and working in government auditing for the city of Titusville. He knew firsthand what it means to build something from nothing, and what it means when the systems designed to support working people fall short.
That understanding deepened when RaShon joined the office of State Representative LaVon Bracy Davis, where he served for three years as Chief of Staff. In that role, he wasn't watching
public service from a distance — he was in the middle of it, navigating the legislative process, crafting policy, and fighting daily for the needs of everyday Floridians. He learned not just how the system works, but how to make it work for people.
Throughout it all, RaShon remained a fixture in the broader community. As a proud Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he organized voter registration drives, mentorship initiatives, and scholarship efforts designed to lift the next generation. His work with the NAACP — serving as Political Action Committee Chair for the Orange County Branch — placed him at the forefront of the fight for justice and civil rights, championing causes that ensure every voice is heard, every neighborhood is valued, and every young person has a chance to dream big.
Serving on the Board of Directors for 26Health, he has worked to bridge gaps in healthcare access, mental health services, and community wellness — especially for those who have been overlooked for far too long. His leadership across these organizations reflects a belief he has held since his earliest days: that service is not a side project. It's a way of life.
His sponsored legislation reflects his values and his community's needs — expanding maternal health protections, reforming juvenile justice, fighting for affordable housing and tenant rights, and ensuring communities like his have a real seat at the table where decisions are made.
RaShon Young isn't representing District 40 from the outside looking in. He is District 40 — its dreams, its struggles, and its limitless possibilities. His story is our story. And with RaShon's heart for service and his history of action, the next chapter is already being written.
